Listening time limit in SPCast

What is the listening time limit on web radio?

The listening time limit ensures that listeners to your radio station are automatically disconnected after a set time. This is particularly useful for blocking bots that could use your station’s content without permission and for complying with certain license models. Once the time limit has expired, the listener must actively tune in again.

How does the setting work?

You can specify the maximum listening time for each mount point individually in seconds. For example, one hour corresponds to 3600 seconds. The default setting allows unlimited listening, but you can specify a separate value for each mountpoint, such as /stream or /autodj.

Examples for the configuration:

  • Mountpoint: /streamMaximum time: 10800 seconds (3 hours)
  • Mountpoint: /stream_liveMaximum time: 10800 seconds (3 hours)
  • Mountpoint: /autodjMaximum time: 10800 seconds (3 hours)

Why should I limit the listening time?

Limiting the listening time offers several advantages

  • Meet the requirements of specific license models.
  • Prevent bots from using your content without authorization.

How can I adjust the settings?

Enter the desired time in seconds.

For example: 10800 for a maximum listening time of 3 hours.

Standard mount points and their configuration

We do not limit the listening time in the standard system.

What happens when the listening time runs out?

As soon as the set time expires, the connection is automatically disconnected. However, listeners can listen again at any time by switching on again.

What do the specified files in the administration mean?

The files specified in the administration are the audio files that are played when the maximum listening time of a user is reached User’s maximum listening time is reached. These files must be saved in the AutoDJ in the spcast_maxtime folder and named exactly as specified in the management exactly as they are specified in the administration.

Example: If the file is specified as stream.mp3 in the administration, it must be located under spcast_maxtime/stream.mp3 in the AutoDJ folder.

Important: Make sure that the spcast_maxtime folder is not accidentally added to the AutoDJ.

Why does the option exist?

If the listener reaches his maximum listening time, he is not simply kicked off the program and can be informed in advance by the radio station operator why his connection was terminated.

Attention!

The data in the files must match for it to work.
