How do I set up an encoder in SAM Broadcaster?

Setting up an encoder in SAM Broadcaster is crucial to successfully broadcasting your radio program. In this step-by-step guide, we will show you how to do this effortlessly. Follow these instructions carefully to ensure your broadcast runs smoothly.

Start the SAM Broadcaster

Start by opening SAM Broadcaster on your computer.

Open the encoder settings

Navigate to the “Window” menu and select the “Encoders” option.

Adding a new encoder in the SAM Broadcaster

Click on the “Plus” icon in the encoder view to set up a new encoder.

Configure the encoder

Select the encoder type “MP3 (LAME_END)” from the selection list.

Configure the selected MP3 (LAME_ENC) encoder

Please note that SPCast also supports the Shoutcast encoder. Unfortunately, the entry of the SID in the SAM Broadcaster is limited to numbers in the Shoutcast setup. Basically, this is absolutely correct. However, we enable the connection via the Shoutcast encoder by specifying the mountpoint instead of the SID. In any case, we recommend using an Icecast encoder. If you would like to use a Shoutcast encoder for whatever reason, RadioBOSS or mAirlist could serve as replacement options for SAM Broadcaster. You may also be able to make changes by contacting Spacial Support.

Output listener numbers in SAM Broadcaster

Navigate to the “Window” menu and select the “Statistic Relays” option.

Click on the “Plus” icon in the encoder view to set up a new statistics relay.

Select the option “Shoutcast statistic relay” and confirm the selection.

It is important that you enter the address of the load balancer here. Please do this in the format “HOSTNAME.sp.radio.fm”. HOSTNAME should of course be replaced by your own domain.

Finally, you can see the audience numbers directly in your SAM Broadcaster.

Older SAM Broadcaster versions

Versions of SAM Broadcaster such as 4.x, which do not have a field for entering the user name, should try the following options in the password field.

  • username:password
  • username,password

Always ensure that user names and passwords are case-sensitive. If this does not work either, update SAM Broadcaster to be able to use modern Shoutcast V2 or Icecast V2 connections.

If this is also not an option, you must access the old Shoutcast V1 connections directly in AutoDJ. You may need to activate this option in AutoDJ first. Older SAM Broadcaster versions will also work with the data from AutoDJ.

Keep in mind, however, that these old connections can cause high latencies. In addition, many other script integrations in SPCast are not available for this type of DJ account.
