Why do the numbers in 'Users / Unique' differ from those in other panels?
In our statistics, it may look at first glance as if the numbers don’t add up. For example, the top panel “Users / Unique (Stat)” might display the number 159, while in the “Continent / Unique” overview, the sum of individual values (e.g., 71 from Europe, 10 from North America, 9 from Asia, and 1 from Oceania) totals 91.
Why is that?
It is due to how geolocation data is collected
Our statistics software automatically attempts to determine the country and continent for each listener. This lookup is performed using IP address databases.
In certain situations, it is technically impossible to determine a listener’s exact location, such as when:
- A VPN or proxy connection is used,
- Privacy tools or ad-blockers mask network details,
- Location databases have incomplete or missing records for a subnet,
- An unstable or anonymized connection is used.
What happens to these listeners?
When a listener’s geographic location cannot be determined with certainty, they are still counted in the total number of unique listeners (159), but cannot be assigned to any specific continent. These “unassignable” listeners are therefore omitted from the geographical breakdown (“Continent / Unique”).
Conclusion
The total number of listeners remains accurate. The regional breakdown only lists listeners whose origin could be reliably pinpointed. This discrepancy is completely normal and not a reporting error.
