Set up Mixxx for SPCast

This guide covers the Icecast route with MP3 using the Mixxx 2.5 documentation. You need a provisioned SPCast environment, an intended broadcaster account and an audio source. Start with a test outside your regular programme.

Gather connection details

Open product management and copy the host, port, username, password and mount point for the intended account. Use encoder connection details, not the public listening URL. Do not assume source, /live or /stream as defaults. Different mount points and accounts can serve different purposes.

Enable SSL/TLS only if specified for that encoder account. An HTTPS listening URL alone does not establish the encoder port. Keep your password private.

Configure Mixxx

Open Preferences → Live Broadcasting and add a connection. Choose Icecast 2 as the server type. Enter Host without https://, a path or an appended port. Copy Port, Login, Password and Mount into their separate fields from your SPCast account.

Choose MP3 as the encoding format and the intended bitrate and sample rate. Check the output and, if required, microphone input in audio preferences. Load a track you have permission to broadcast into a deck, play it and check the master level. Then select Options → Enable Live Broadcasting. Labels can differ with the interface language.

Check connection and audio

First check connection status in Mixxx. Then open the public listening URL on a second device and start playback. Listen to music or speech and check the level. Use headphones to prevent monitoring audio from feeding back into the encoder.

Disconnect the encoder after testing. Check whether the prepared AutoDJ programme becomes audible again. The AutoDJ guide explains this transition. AutoDJ accepts MP3 only; other live formats are a separate compatibility question outside this MP3 setup.

Diagnose common failures

For rejected authentication, compare letter case, password and mount point with product management. For timeouts, check host, port, the specified TLS setting and your local network connection. For a connection without sound, check the audio source and levels before changing server details.

If playback stays silent, test the direct listening URL before an embedded player. Record the software version, time and error message for support. Never share passwords in public screenshots. The setup tutorial helps check the complete environment.
