Set up BUTT for SPCast
This guide covers the Icecast route with MP3 using the BUTT 1.47.0 documentation. You need a provisioned SPCast environment, an intended broadcaster account and an audio source. Start with a test outside your regular programme.
Gather connection details
Open product management and copy the host, port, username, password and mount point for the intended account. Use encoder connection details, not the public listening URL. Do not assume source, /live or /stream as defaults. Different mount points and accounts can serve different purposes.
Enable SSL/TLS only if specified for that encoder account. An HTTPS listening URL alone does not establish the encoder port. Keep your password private.
Configure BUTT
Open Settings → Main → Server → Add. Name the connection and choose Icecast. Copy Address, Port, User, Password and Mountpoint from your SPCast account.
Under Audio, choose the input device and MP3 for streaming. Match bitrate and sample rate to your intended stream settings. BUTT sends the selected input signal; it does not mix music from a playlist. Select the audio source receiving your microphone or mixer. Save the settings and start connecting with the play button.
Check connection and audio
First check connection status in BUTT. Then open the public listening URL on a second device and start playback. Listen to music or speech and check the level. Use headphones to prevent monitoring audio from feeding back into the encoder.
Disconnect the encoder after testing. Check whether the prepared AutoDJ programme becomes audible again. The AutoDJ guide explains this transition. AutoDJ accepts MP3 only; other live formats are a separate compatibility question outside this MP3 setup.
Diagnose common failures
For rejected authentication, compare letter case, password and mount point with product management. For timeouts, check host, port, the specified TLS setting and your local network connection. For a connection without sound, check the audio source and levels before changing server details.
If playback stays silent, test the direct listening URL before an embedded player. Record the software version, time and error message for support. Never share passwords in public screenshots. The setup tutorial helps check the complete environment.
